Project in detail

Education and Health

Members of this project:

The subject matter of this project centers on the causal relations between health and education. The first part looks at the effects of health on the school readiness and cognitive development of children starting school, whereas the second explores how education affects adult health. The findings obtained thus far are of a highly heterogeneous nature. They fail to suggest that education invariably impacts people's health status in a favorable way, showing rather that effects tend to vary from one educational reform to another. For example, an additional school year in Great Britain has no significant impact on physical stress levels (measured by biomarkers). The results of the project have been published in the Journal of Population Economics.
